Energy Policy of Pakistan: A Consumer Perspective

Abstract

Energy policy plays a vital role in a country’s dynamics. Developing countries like Pakistan are struggling to meet their energy needs. However, certain factors hinder the effectiveness of energy policies. While designing the energy policy, it is vital to consider all the stakeholders, especially energy consumers, in this regard. This study aims to include public opinion to extricate the key factors lacking in the current energy policy of Pakistan. Our results showed that lack of dams & renewable energy, corruption, and politics as the key factor hindering the successful implementation of policies in Pakistan. Moreover, our results showed that the majority of the energy consumers preferred cheaper energy with flat rates. Therefore, shifting our energy policies to renewable energy will overcome the expensive electricity generation and help provide a more affordable solution. Moreover, we provide renewable energy utilization as an alternative for an affordable solution to the country’s energy shortage.
