Legal Development in the CIS: Road Map

Abstract

Sufficient time has elapsed since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 for certain results to be summed up, changes to be generalized, and results contemplated about subsequent developments in the political, social, economic, and legal spheres of the former socialist republics. Most noteworthy, and no surprise, are those changes which lie on the surface. Among them are legal and legislative construction and the improvement of the judicial system, apparatus of justice, and other links in ensuring legal order. Here the changes are most in evidence and striking.
