Abstract

This paper proposes in observing Root Mean Square (RMS) voltage magnitude and locating the voltage sag location by using the distance relay method at upstream and downstream regions. It is found that the voltage sag location of the monitor can be identified clearly by comparing the magnitude and angle of impedance before and after the voltage sag event. The monitor can obtain the necessary impedance data by applying the relay’s algorithm or using distance estimates for the relay at that location.
