Abstract
The present research sheds light on "the difficulties of intonation, perspectives and applications", which fall within the use of oral language to transmit information. It’s a possible theoretical approach targeting to their description in a substantially functional perspective. We then check how the assumptions can be used for teaching French intonation. We have tried to provide a general overview of some principles for a functional description of prosodic factors, and of the melody of the French sentence in particular extend the methods of signal description to the other significant objects that are clues. Thus relevant features systems, reporting for index objects’ classification as signal objects relative to a given function or purpose, can constitute functional descriptions. A more in-depth theoretical practice, combined with the tests of this research provided by the melody teaching system that we have described, will undoubtedly enable us to better validate some hypotheses of this research. Key words9 Intonation; F.F.L (French as a Foreign Language); Transmission; Prosody; Function; Difficulties; Teaching.
