Abstract

a. What has the evolution of working hours been characterized by, from the 19th century to today? The number of working hours has gradually diminished thanks to union action and improved productivity. Holiday with pay has been introduced in most industrialized countries. The organisation of working hours has undergone changes with more flexible time schedules, and part-time jobs. With today’s crisis some companies have reduced the number of hours worked to avoid bankruptcies.
