This study aims to determine the factors that help build a supportive learning environment in order to keep the student engaged in academic and other activities of the institute/university. The paper reviews various criteria that help in the creation of such an environment for students. Based on the readings, the author has developed a framework encompassing the main elements of a supportive learning environment. A questionnaire was administered to students from six institutes. It was found that instructional, peer, institutional, and technical support play a key role in the creation of a supportive environment for the student. Abstract
