Microcomputer support for university departments in the late 1990's: a white paper

Abstract

Microcomputer support systems in university departments have grown up gradually over the past ten years. The explosion of new technologies coming in the late 1990's threatens to overwhelm these systems unless careful thought is given to how technology can be controlled, supported and managed for the greatest benefit to departments and the university as a whole. It is time for the University to take another look at the current and evolving role of computing and how it will be supported.
