Abstract

Since its invention, BitTorrent has become one of the most important phenomena in the Internet. It is an open and arguably the fastest downloading means, which is broadly used in dozens of file distribution websites. Despite this, BitTorrent Ecosystem is still not completely understood due to its massive environment. Therefore, we provide an outlook to Central Asian BitTorrent Ecosystem by investigating the five prominent torrent-tracker websites in the region. Using HTML parsing for backward crawling, these tracker sites are analyzed for content popularity and established trends. Also, Central Asian websites are compared to other Western tracker sites to identify key issues in the local BitTorrent Ecosystem. Thus, the paper aims to provide rational evaluation of the ecosystem in the region and to explain our reasoning through some statistical data from various world ranking systems such as Alexa rank and Internet World Statistics.
