Abstract
The use of the individual loop-closure equations rather than the input-output relationship of the complete linkage to determine the influence of tolerances is suggested as a more convenient procedure, especially for complex linkages such as the seven-link planar mechanism which is used to illustrate the procedure. Also, a known graphical procedure[3] is given a convinient interpretation in terms of the velocity diagram of a ‘corresponding’ mechanism and its relationship to the analytical method is shown. The use of acceleration diagrams is also considered.
