Abstract

From the above overview it is apparent that ACh-containing neurons are well represented in the mammalian brain and may be localized by determination of ChAT, or ACh under the appropriate conditions. Of all the regions examined, the basal ganglia (with marked emphasis on the striatum) and the interpeduncular nucleus contain the highest levels of ACh, ChAT and AChE.
