NERC Matters: NERC: Electric System Is Adequately Reliable

Abstract

A primary role of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is to develop and enforce standards that provide for an “adequate level of reliability,” and to “conduct periodic assessments of the reliability and adequacy of the bulk-power system in North America.” In fulfillment of those responsibilities, NERC recently issued the State of Reliability 2013 report (Report), in which it declared that the bulk power system (BPS) “remains adequately reliable.”
