Abstract

In this work, we study the effect of metamaterial substrates on the response of a band pass microstrip filter. For this, we analyze a band pass filter design printed on two different substrate materials: Right hand and left hand material. The filter geometry studied with two design tools: the method of insertion loss and Ansoft Designer 3.5. To understand the effect of metamaterials on the filter response, the same design of the microstrip band pass filter is printed on right hand and left hand materials, return loss and insertion loss results are compared and discussed, taking into account the effect produced by each material substrate on the filter performance.
