The current research work explores a unique method to model and design the seasonal thermal energy storage based on borehole heat exchangers in a typical weather condition area. The research study aims to replace the conventional air conditioning system with seasonal cooling technique and to reduce the emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) to the atmosphere. Using simulation platform TRNSYS, the borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) system model has been developed and the dynamic capacity of the system with operating mode of cold energy storage in winter season has been studied. The proposed system can store cold energy in the winter season and then can operate in summer peak months to fulfil seasonal cooling requirements. The average storage temperature also decreases significantly in winter season.
