Abstract

Antroponyms in the service of persuasion – based on examples from “Odpór” (1579) by Erazm Gliczner Summary The main purpose of this study is to describe the persuasive function of personal names in Odpór na odpowiedź kwestyj niektórych podanych o Kościele Powszechnym [...], written by Erazm Gliczner in 1579. The author was an esteemed member of the reformation community. In Odpór Gliczner deals with the views of Jesuits. The work is characterized by numerous personal names, which the Protestant author thoughtfully included in the polemics with Catholics. Gliczner subjectively selected the discussed content and the people it refers to. Some anthroponyms were enriched with additional terms, which were designed to influence the reader’s thinking and convice them to the presented views.
