X-33-taking the first step

Abstract

This paper discusses the status of the present test programs for validating the SSTO (single stage to orbit) operational concept and technology readiness and describes the upcoming X-33 (reusable launch vehicle demonstrator) program as the next step leading to a revolutionary capability in space transportation.
