The effectiveness of a developed unit in biology according to recent trends in developing the achievement and scientific thinking skills of second year secondary students in Yemen.

Abstract

Abstract: The study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a developed study unit in biology at the secondary stage in Yemen in the light of recent trends in scientific education in developing achievement and scientific thinking skills. To achieve this, the researcher used the descriptive approach and the quasi-experimental approach, by building and developing a study unit and measuring its effectiveness in developing achievement and developing scientific thinking skills, using an interview form to identify the most important modern trends and projects, an achievement test and a scale for scientific thinking skills to measure the effectiveness of the study unit. The study sample consisted of (60) students; out of which (30) students are an experimental group and (30) students are a control group, and modern trends of scientific education and the development of the study unit (the immune unit) have been identified in their light. The study concluded that there are statistically significant differences between the average achievement of the experimental group. The experimental group obtained a total average (18.47 out of 20) and a percentage (91.67%) in contrast to the control group getting a total average of (15.06 out of 20). And a percentage of (74.83%) in the achievement test, and the Eta coefficient of influence was (0.96), which indicates that there is a significant effect of the proposed unit and in the scientific thinking skills scale, the experimental got a total average (19.93 out of 25) and a percentage of (79.73%); In contrast, the control group got a total average of (17.43 out of 25) (69.73%), and the difference in the two scales is statistically significant, at the level (α≥0.05) in favor of the experimental group, which confirms the effectiveness of the unit. In light of the results, the researcher recommended making use of the developed unit as a model in developing the biology curriculum for the secondary stage in Yemen. He also suggested conducting studies on teaching methods in accordance with modern trends in scientific education. الملخص: هدفت الدراسة إلى قياس فاعلية وحدة دراسية مطورة في الأحياء بالمرحلة الثانوية في اليمن في ضوء الاتجاهات الحديثة للتربية العلمية في تنمية التحصيل ومهارات التفكير العلمي، ولتحقيق ذلك استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي والمنهج شبه التجريبي، وذلك ببناء وتطوير وحدة دراسية وقياس فاعليتها في تنمية التحصيل وتنمية مهارات التفكير العلمي مستخدما استمارة مقابلة لتحديد أهم الاتجاهات الحديثة والمشاريع، واختبار تحصيلي ومقياس لمهارات التفكير العلمي لقياس فاعلية الوحدة الدراسية، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (60) طالباً؛ منهم (30) طالباً مجموعة تجريبية و(30) طالباً مجموعة ضابطة، وتم تحديد الاتجاهات الحديثة للتربية العلمية وتطوير الوحدة الدراسية (وحدة المناعة) في ضوئها، وتوصلت الدراسة إلى وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطي تحصيل المجموعة التجريبية، فقد حصلت التجريبية على متوسط كلي (18.47من 20) ونسبة مئوية ( 91.67%) في مقابل حصول الضابطة على متوسط كلي (15.06من20)، ونسبة (74.83%) في الاختبار التحصيلي، وبلغ معامل إيتا للتأثير (0.96) ويدل على أن هناك تأثيرا كبيراً للوحدة المقترحة وفي مقياس مهارات التفكير العلمي، حصلت التجريبية على متوسط كلي (19.93 من25) وبنسبة (79.73%)؛ في مقابل حصول الضابطة على متوسط كلي (17.43 من25) وبنسبة (69.73%)، والفرق في المقياسين دال إحصائياً، عند مستوى (α≤0.05) ولصالح المجموعة التجريبية الذي وهو ما يؤكد فاعلية الوحدة. وفي ضوء النتائج أوصى الباحث بالاستفادة من الوحدة المطورة كنموذج في تطوير منهج الأحياء للمرحلة الثانوية باليمن، كما اقترح إجراء دراسات حول طرائق التدريس وفقا للاتجاهات الحديثة للتربية العلمية.
