Abstract
In classical Athens, foster-relationships were not institutionalized to the same extent as in later periods and other geographical areas but legal bias in the sources means that we hear much more about guardians than about foster-parents. This chapter covers choice of guardians, including several case studies, as well as bias of evidence towards misconduct.
