Abstract

An alternative technique is developed for computing ionic space-charge fields connected with power transmission line losses and corona charging in the wire-to-plane geometry. This approach leads to better estimates of the space-charge distribution near the wire, while retaining the round cross section of the wire and the boundary at infinity. It is shown that even when satisfactory numerical convergence overall is not obtained, the ground plane conditions are reproduced faithfully.<>
