Abstract
This paper introduces a simple coupled meander-line resonator (CMLR) component to suppress the mutual coupling for the microstrip patch antennas arranged in E-plane. The spacing between the inner edges of the two antennas is only 3mm for a compact size, and the proposed CMLRs are inserted symmetrically at the edge of the antennas. The simulated results illustrate that the port isolation of the antenna is better than 34 dB at resonant frequency (2.6 GHz) with the introduction of the CMLRs under the premise of a good matching. In addition, the radiation patterns of the antenna with CMLRs are significantly improved at 2.6 GHz compared to coupled antennas.
