Abstract
The arc extinguishing performance of the circuit breaker make it one of the most important properties. However, there is currently no effective onsite detection method. This paper introduces a detection method based on radiated electromagnetic waves. A simulation platform for the breaking process of the circuit breaker was established. By changing the concentration of SF6, the opening speed and other parameters, the opening process of circuit breakers with different arc extinguishing performance was simulated. The shape of the breaking arc was taken using a high-speed camera, and the electromagnetic wave radiated during the opening process was measured. The test results show that the duration of the radiated electromagnetic wave can well characterize the burning time of the arc in the circuit breaker, and then characterize the arc extinguishing performance of the circuit breaker.
