Hot Spot Detection in High Voltage Transformer by Thermal Sensor Using COMSOL Multiphysics

Abstract

This paper presents a Hot Spot detection in high voltage transformer by thermal sensor using COMSOL Multiphysics software. A periodical test of the thermal condition of high voltage equipment can eliminate the risk of the damage caused by hot spots. Hot spots in a HV transformer are major risks that may lead to the complete replacement of equipment if left undetected for a long time. Here, COMSOL probe point is used as a thermal sensor to detect the temperature of the hot spot which occurred in the iron core of the transformer. The detection of Hot Spots in time can safeguard an equipment from complete breakdown.
