Similarities

Abstract

There are striking similarities between US inflation developments today and in the early 1970s. If inflation continues to develop as it did back then, inflation should be normalized in one and a half years, that is in summer 2024. I doubt this will happen, though, because inflationary pressures are more widespread today. Consequently, the Fed should keep interest rates elevated for at least another year.
