Abstract
A low-cost single-phase-to-three-phase converter using only two power semiconductor switches is presented. The circuit complexity of the topology is minimal, and, with the use of advanced pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques, high-quality balanced three-phase output voltages are guaranteed. A unique advantage of the proposed system is that the static converter kVA rating is only 50% of the three-phase output kVA. Analysis and simulation results are presented to show the high-performance features of the proposed converter. Design procedures for selecting the reactive components are also discussed. Selected results were verified experimentally on a laboratory prototype converter powering a three-phase induction motor.<>
