Abstract
Emotional awareness is a fundamental pillar of collaboration, enabling better understanding between group members and improving communication. Collaborative tasks are an effective learning method, and supporting emotional awareness within a group would enhance the experience. Thus, designing an interface that materializes the different pillars of collaborative learning, especially emotional presence, could greatly enhance the learning experience. In this state of the art, we present about fifteen studies that explore the relationships between the different concepts underlying collaborative learning and ask how the interface could convey relevant information to the group. We approach their findings through the prism of two questions: what information might be relevant to gather and present to the group and how to present it via the tangible interface. In doing so, we raise other questions, such as the issue of personal data, the effectiveness of emotion measurement, or its temporality. These issues have been little explored in the field of human-computer interaction. This exploratory work is intended to provide the community with information that will enable further research.
