Abstract

This paper presents a novel method to obtain optimum stator tooth shapes of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) considering tradeoffs between average torque and torque ripple. Typically, torque ripple in SRMs is mitigated by current waveform shaping for a given machine design. Here, the issue is addressed using an inverse approach: the best geometry is found for a given current waveform.
