Use of co-polar correlation coefficient for probing precipitation along the vertical

Abstract

Presents observations of the co-polar correlation coefficient |/spl rhosub hv/(0)| made with a ground based and airborne weather radars along the vertical. Also differential phase and differential reflectivity at a 10/spl deg/ off nadir are shown. Simple models of prolate and oblate spheroids are used to qualitatively explain the observations.<>
