Abstract

Energy is the most precious resource in a network of sensors since it directly influences the life of the microsensors, or even of the entire network. The energy consumed by a sensor node is essentially due to the following operations: capture, processing, and communication of data. Most of the energy of the nodes is spent in the communication process compared to the detection and processing of data. The main objective is to propose a communication protocol in aim to preserve energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a modified version of LEACH protocol that is based on a multi-hop gateway in aim to optimize energy consumption in wireless sensor networks.
