Abstract
Development of 4H-SiC single photon avalanche detectors for replacement of photomultiplier tubes in ultraviolet light induced fluorescence systems is discussed. Systems capable of detecting micro-scale airborne particles have been demonstrated. The impact of measured dark count rate and its relation to single-photon detection efficiency on detector design is discussed.
