Abstract

The nonlinear behavior of engine damping system is analyzed in this paper. Stability of the system is firstly investigated and the hetrolinic orbit is obtained. Secondly, the critical value of chaos is gained by Melnikov method and the effects of parameters on nonlinearity are studied. Finally, the conclusion is validated that nonlinear damping coefficient is the main impact factor affecting chaotic threshold. Meanwhile, the possibility of chaos with the crankshaft radius increased is proved in this paper. The research on nonlinearity may supply theoretical bases for analysis and optimal design of engine damping systems.
