Development of working environment comfort to improve productivity

Abstract

One of the factors that affects worker productivity is physical working environment. This condition will influence the comfort level of employees and it also makes an impact on productivity. Thus, it is very important to design a comfortable working environment. The purpose of this study is to analyze and to improve the design of a more comfortable physical environment. Ergonomic principle was used as a basic concept to design and participatory method was also used to identify and determine a design specification. This study found that the temperature of workspace is 25.40Celcius, the noise level is 85.6 dB and the lighting level in the workspace is 210.5 lux for comfort zone. This study also found that the productivity of workers increases 14% when working in a more comfortable workplace.
