Abstract
This article examines the population dynamics of municipalities in Paraná through an Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) carried out for the period from 2001 to 2020. Variables studied were the percent variation of population and the Human Development Index (HDI). The results indicate that disparities in regional development remained stable during the period studied, a factor that stimulated migration from smaller municipalities to urban centers. The bivariate analysis between Human Development Index and population variation highlighted the existence of a high-high cluster in the metropolitan regions of Curitiba and Londrina, which are, therefore, municipalities with higher quality of life and capable of attracting residents. A low-low cluster in the central region of the state groups municipalities with lower HDI, where population reduction is observed. Thus, the planning and implementation of regional development strategies should be a joint task of clustered municipalities as actions carried out by a given locality impact its neighborhoods.
