Abstract
Architecture and performance characteristics of an adaptive and programmable line equalizer are described. A digitally reconfigurable filter structure with an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is introduced. The versatile implementation of a wide AGC dynamic range and precise and quick adjustment for different conditions and different transmission bit rates in the range from 1kbps to 2mbps is described. The approach taken here is to design a flexible, firmware-definable circuit with universal bit processing, so that it can be applied to a wide range of dissimilar systems in telecommunication networks.<>
