Abstract

The optimization of the extraction of essential oil from Algerian lavender (lavandula angustifolia. L) by hydro distillation and the determination of the antioxidant and anntifungal activities were considered. A parametric study was carried out and based on the response surface methodology with particle size, water/solid ratio and extraction time, as factors. Results from the 2, 2’-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate (ABTS) assay shows that the obtained extracts are some less effective antioxidants than butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) standards.
