Abstract

It is believed that today's young individuals have more individualistic, egocentric, narcissistic tendencies or characteristics than the previous generation. However, fragility, unbalance, anxiety, sadness and isolation have also increased among young people. Today, due to the epidemic of narcissism, rudeness, exhibitionism and desire for popularity, especially among young people, has become commonplace. At this point, it is thought that an important factor that triggers the epidemic of narcissism is the new parenting culture. Today, a new parental model that resembles seven twenty-four caregivers has begun to spread, which constantly praises or pampers children, which they do not deserve, protects them from all kinds of danger and criticism, cannot digest their mistakes and failures, and never gives them the initiative and responsibility while leaving them an area of extreme freedom. According to many assessments, the excessive permissive behavior and attitudes of the parents, which they often assume will increase the self-esteem of the child, cause narcissism problem. These behaviors and attitudes leading to narcissism are reinforced not only among parents, but also by institutional training programs and practitioners. In this context, the study aimed to discuss the increasing narcissistic behavior and attitudes in societies, especially among the younger generations, and the issue of more fragile children and adolescents around the new overprotective or permissive parenting model.
