Abstract

Abstract This chapter provides information on the opportunities that are presented to a variety of stakeholders by efficient and effective phytosanitary risk management. This chapter also speculates on and anticipates its future, because phytosanitary risk management provides a framework that offers substantial future opportunities to industry, national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), and national interests. As the practice of risk management becomes more mature and sophisticated, better decisions are expected, from setting corporate strategy at the industry, NPPO, and national interest level, to driving major trade initiatives, and operational decision-making. With reliable, timely, and current information on pure and speculative risks, people can make better quality decisions. Risk management also offers a substantial number of other opportunities for all plant trade stakeholders.
