Abstract
In this paper, a compact meandered inverted-F multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna operating at two wireless local area network (WLAN) bands 2.4/5GHz is designed, simulated and developed. It consists of two symmetrical inverted-F antennas separated by a small distance. It is printed on top layer of low cost FR4 epoxy substrate ($\boldsymbol{\varepsilon}_{\mathbf{r}}=4.4,\ \mathbf{tan}\boldsymbol{\delta} =0.02$) of thickness 1.6mm. The required isolation at two WLAN bands is achieved by incorporating decoupling structures like T-slot and meander-line resonators on the ground plane. The individual antennas are fed with U-slot loaded $50-\boldsymbol{\Omega}$ microstrip-line for achieving good impedance bandwidth. The simulated reflection coefficient, isolation is observed to be −12dB, 23dB and −14dB, 36.6dB in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band respectively and the measured reflection coefficient, isolation is observed to be −16.4dB, 21.3dB and − 12.1dB, 21.4dB in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band respectively. The simulated results are observed to be in good agreement with experimental data. The proposed dual band antenna would be promising for WLAN applications.
