Vaginal discharge syndromic management in family planning programs: a review of the literature.

Abstract

This paper reviews the literature on syndromic management of RTIs and assesses its usefulness among family planning populations in developing countries. We focus on several factors in our review of the algorithms discussed in the literature: Validity: It must truly measure the condition it is designed to identify. Reliability: consistently giving the same results when used repeatedly. Feasibility: simple enough to use in the field. Acceptability: to both the provider and to the client. Affordability: administered at a reasonable cost. (excerpt)
