IEC 61850 – An Approach to Facilitate Interoperability in Distribution Automation

Abstract

Distribution Automation (DA), one of the key enablers to achieve Smart Grid, is rapidly gaining popularity among power utilities globally. This paper describes an example of a protection application scheme and elaborates on how the IEC 61850 application profile can be defined to ensure interoperability based on a Distribution Automation (DA) application.
