Abstract

Organizational culture can promote or impede the firm’s strategic actions. A recent study found that companies with “strategically appropriate cultures” outperformed selected other corporations with less appropriate cultures [Kotter & Heskett]. The point is that the culture of a firm should match and be supportive of the firm’s strategy [Wright, Pringle, Kroll, p. 2291. Is such a relationship between the culture and strategy equally valid when it comes to lower level strategies? Specifically, should there be the match between team management strategy and the culture too?
