Abstract
A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the schemes of radar target identification and detection using an ultra-wideband/short-pulse (UWB/SP) radar. In target identification, a correlation/wavelet transform scheme, a neural network technique and a time-domain imaging scheme were studied. To detect a target in a sea clutter environment, the E-pulse technique was utilized to minimize the sea clutter while enhancing the target response, thus facilitating its detection. It appears that a UWB/SP radar may provide higher resolution for target ID and more effective clutter suppression for target detection compared with conventional radars.
