Abstract

: This collection consists of documents created by public relations staff at the Arnold Arboretum or created by other sources about public relations activities at the Arnold Arboretum. The bulk of Series I: Public Relations dates 1982-1984 reflecting Kate Nixon’s tenure. The bulk of Series II: Press Releases dates 1984-1989 which coincides with Peter Ashton’s tenure as Director (1979-1987). Ashton made media relations one of his main concerns and established the Public Programs Department which brought together the Membership and Education departments and which expanded to include Visitor Services, Public Events, Public Relations and Information.
