Abstract
A low-profile wideband circularly polarized (CP) metasurface (MTS) antenna is proposed. The MTS consists of a set of $3^{\ast} 3$ parallelograms like elements. The modal behavior of MTS is studied by using characteristic mode theory (CMA). The results show that mode 1 and mode 3 of MTS can realize wideband circular polarization. The proposed antenna size is $0.45 \lambda_{0}\times 0.45 \lambda_{0}\times 0.065 \lambda_{0}$. The simulation results show that the 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 6.0-7.1GHz, and the −10dB impedance bandwidth is 5.2-7.13GHz. The peak gain is 7.55dBi.
