Abstract
Most people are becoming increasingly reliant on technology as a result of recent developments. One area that has seen rapid development is the mass media, which is currently undergoing several changes in terms of innovation. The mass media, which was previously known as print media and electronic media, has now expanded into the digital space, including online media and social media. Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms. Instagram has several features that are helpful enough to serve as a news channel. The information that is always in the spotlight of Instagram users or followers is not far from crime and traffic developments. Instagram account @infobekasi runs one of the accounts that serve as a news feed. The aim of this study was to see if there was an effect of exposure to accident news on perceptions of safety riding among followers of the Instagram account @infobekasi. This study applies Media Ecology Theory in conjunction with quantitative methods. Researchers collected data by distributing questionnaires to research participants who followed the @infobekasi account. Based on the objectives of this study, the researchers used the Simple Linear Regression Test. Regression tests were conducted by researchers using the SPSS application. According to the findings of this study, the variable exposure to accident news has a positive and significant effect of 29% on the variable perception of safe riding. Thus, according to media ecology theory, where people's behavior is influenced by the media and the media shapes people's perceptions and experiences in managing their lives, online media can play a role in influencing people's behavior to be more aware when driving.
