Abstract

Water tree is one of the most important insulation degradations and becomes a worldwide problem in an underground power cable. The water-treed XLPE sample consists of two layers: the non-degraded and the water treed layer equivalent circuit, used to evaluate the relative permittivity and dielectric loss factor. The conduction current estimation of XLPE film samples with water treeing was modeled by using the finite element method by applying 1 kV AC voltage. The dielectric response gives information about the physical and chemical structure of the insulation material. In order to cause the aging process to have a physical and/or chemical effect on the insulating material, the change in the polarization phenomenon can be used to track the deterioration of the insulation.
