Abstract
Breakdown at the vacuum/dielectric interface is triggered by multipactor and finally realized by plasma avalanche in the ambient desorbed or evaporated gas layer above the dielectric1–4. We have theoretically and experimentally demonstrated that the periodic surface profiles5–8 and external resonant magnetic field9–11 can prominently increase the HPM breakdown thresholds. The main factors determining the effect of suppressing multipactor are analyzed and emphasized in this talk, including the slope angle, periodic size, rf frequency, rf field amplitude, dc magnetic amplitude, pressure and dielectric constant. These factors play significant important role on improving breakdown thresholds.
