Abstract
The problematic issues of determining the spatial and radiometric resolution of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) are considered. Various approaches to determining spatial resolution are compared, their advantages and disadvantages are noted, and an explanation of the possible discrepancy between the results is given. A definition of the radiometric resolution of SAR is given on base of a statistical method. A technique for measuring radiometric resolution for surface-distributed targets is proposed, a probabilistic criterion for radiometric resolution is proposed, and a threshold value of radio contrast is calculated.
