Abstract

Established knowledge dissemination processes in the HCI community, such as academic publications and conferences, promulgate a systemic exclusion of indigenous research partners. While few individuals from indigenous or marginalised communities have published, entire communities collaborating in research projects have not had the opportunity to present their work and the knowledge created in the process. Thus we argue for more inclusive events such as the bi-annual eBorneo and the inaugural Namibian knowledge fair following principles of open space technology and community means of knowledge production and dissemination. We share our concept, experiences and reflection of such indigenous knowledge fairs, as a new approach to pluralistic knowledge dissemination in HCI.
