Abstract

The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a non-invasive technique that allows the evaluation of brain electrical activity. It has beenadvantageous over the years to assess the brain ́s functional organization in healthy populations and those with variouspathologies. This review aims to provide a general overview of the EEG, including the neurophysiological origin of brainelectrical activity, the component frequency bands, and the analysis methods commonly applied in research. There is still a lotto know about the meaning of the changes generated in the different brain rhythms related to age during informationprocessing, as well as their alterations in specific pathologies.
