Connecting Coding to Clinical Policy: Contraception

Abstract

There are distinct diagnosis and procedure codes for the counseling and/or contraceptive management services personally provided by physicians and other qualified health care professionals (QHPs). This article reviews reporting options for the following services: Contraception counseling as part of a comprehensive preventive medicine service Contraception counseling on a separate date from a comprehensive preventive medicine service Initiation of contraception Surveillance of contraception Diagnosis codes for contraception services and procedure codes for some related services are also reviewed.
