Abstract
This paper provides a systematic study on how an interdigitated capacitive (IDC) sensor can be optimized for sensitivity if it is embedded between two 6 mm thick glass sheets. The width of the electrode finger and the gap between adjacent electrode fingers have been varied from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm to study the sensitivity of the sensor. Human touch experiments have been performed to evaluate the capacitance change during the touch event. A large, well-defined and durable sensing area is provided, making this sensor a good choice for industrial and commercial applications.
